Jake and Amanda finished up their time at Moody this summer when Jake graduated. They pursued some job leads and one was in Alaska. They had friends in Alaska serving as RA's at a public boarding high school. They had some other leads but it was evident that there was something drawing them to the position in Alaska. So it was bittersweet when we heard the news of them moving to Galena, Alaska. We were so happy for them and the experience they would be getting but sad about having them move so far away from us.
Where they moved to is very remote. It is only accessible via plane (you cannot drive to this town). There are about 650 people in the town. Amanda often refers to it as "the bush". Looking at a map it appears as though they are closer to Russia than Canada.
We have loved spending time with them in the past year - just chatting at home, meeting them in the city, or going out with them. They are very insightful and wise beyond their years and also a lot of fun. We already miss them but look forward to emails and hopefully soon some phone calls and skyping!
