Born in a Manger

We visited Cosley Zoo to see their Holiday Lights Show. It was free and we haven't done many activities recently so we all went. The girls were so excited to go see - lions, tigers, elephants, and penguins. Cora voiced her disappointment when we said she would be seeing coyotes, horses, cows, and pigs. She says "Mom, half of those animals are farm animals and the other half are just plain old animals. These are not the animals I was looking forward to." Oh well.

Cora took a notebook and documented each animal she saw. She actually loved the visit to the zoo despite her initial disappointment.

We took time in the barn (actually about the only place we saw any animals) to talk about the smells and sounds. Then we talked about Jesus Christ being born in a manger that was in either a stable or cave but around the animals similar to those in this barn. We talked about it being unpleasant possibly but it was better than being outside. It was a sweet conversation with our sweet girls about the reason we are celebrating Christmas.
