Wow, it is hard to believe our first daughter is four. That seems like she is getting old too quickly but at the same time I can't remember life without her. She was the first to provide me with the title - Mommy (or Mama, Ma, Mom, etc.) I have learned so much about being a parent from her and she unfortunately ends up being the guinea pig for my parenting. There have been some real good hits and some real misses on my part. I hope that I love, discipline, and care for her in a way that allows her to thrive. My heart's desire and prayer are that she comes to an understanding and acceptance of faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior. Seems like such a big concept and truth for her to come to at this age but daily we are talking about faith and Christ and God and heaven. She is very interested in all of life and it naturally flows to that topic.
Anyway back to Cora - our little big four year old, she is a delight. She makes us laugh. Her humor is not in jokes or story telling but rather in silliness and creativity. She surprises us with what she remembers which is pretty much everything :) She loves to offer suggestions and be helpful. We often joke about qualities in each of us that we see in her. It is funny to see yourself as a child and realize that you have been this way from the beginning.
We woke up and opened presents. She received a devotional bible and digital camera from Mom & Dad.
To celebrate her birthday Cora requested to go to the Rainforest Cafe. She remembered she went there for her third birthday so that made it seem like the perfect choice. What she forgot were the noises - loud animals and thunder and rain. She spent most of the night like this....
I should mention that going to the Rainforest Cafe as a family of 5 was an interesting feat. It probably was close to overdoing it for me as the Woodfield Mall is everything other than a quick trip. We managed it fairly well though. When we got home, Grandma & Grandpa came over and celebrated with Cora too.
