Part of this World

Coralyn twirls, whirls, and pliets throughout the day at home and spent the school year in a dance class. She made friends with Avery, Grace, and Lizzie. Cora ended up being one of the youngest in the class so she didn't have all the coordination the other girls had but she had good listening skills and was intent on following direction. I would at times look in the class and see all the others running across the room and Cora sitting in the middle of floor waiting for the teacher. We went with a local park district for her class this year (last year she was at a studio) and it was a great experience. The teacher was good and the costumes and recital song were very age appropriate. This may seem like a strange thing to state and obvious that it would happen but unfortunately it isn't a given.

The theme of the recital was Bound for Broadway. All the songs were from Broadway musicals. Coralyn was our very own Ariel from the Little Mermaid. She has not actually seen the movie but loves to dance to "Part of this World" from class.

The girls practiced and practiced for their recital in May. Here is the video of the practice. You can see the teacher to know what the girls are suppose to be doing. Also all the background noise is that I am taping it through the window.

Well the recital came and Cora did great. She wasn't nervous and performed the dance better than ever in class. Here is the dress rehearsal. All the girls did even better at the actual performance which we were not allowed to tape but we have an actual DVD.

The studio all signed huge paper that decorated the room to hide the mirrors the final weeks of practice. The other girls were adding their own "flare" to their signature so Cora did as well with a "smiley face". See if you can find her signature.

We were so proud of Coralyn. She persevered even when she wasn't able to do the move and we are so proud of her progress in just a year.
